RAW Artist KC-Voodoo Lounge

Thursday, February 7, 2013

Hey readers,

Last night I went out on a school night to Voodoo Lounge to support my friend Sam Levi's RAW Natural Born Artists KC. She has really great work and I was proud to be there for her. Her booth looked amazing and I bought one of her small prints to the left. Check her website out here: http://samanthalevi.com/

I forgot to mention they had a swank photo booth option that any girl will flock to. The photo booth was even kind enough to tell you what poses to do. Photo 1: Cheerleader, Glasses, and Blue Steel. Photo 2: Love, Freezing, and favorite animal pose. My amazing friend Sarah Nelsen is the pretty short haired lady in the first photo with me and you should check out her work here: http://sarah-nelsen.com/

We had a lot of fun and were ready to call it a night around midnight. Again please check out my friends websites as they are super talented women in KC.

Haircut Inspiration

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

Hi readers!

I got my hair cut yesterday and was very tempted to cut it short but I got a trim instead. I have a obsessive compulsive nature to get a haircut that I had in London back in 2005 when I studied abroad there. No one has been able to get it quite right and I have ended up with an ugly mullet a few times. When someone cuts my hair wrong too I turn into that girl that shows all her emotions on her face and vow silently to never return to said salon.

Browsing the Internet for hair inspiration I got annoyed at the amount of celebrity haircuts in Google's search engine. I mean there has to be other people in the world besides celebrities that have good hair. I found a random hair model picture that I loved and I did end up loving one celebrity's hair Lily Allen. Look how pretty her hair is, her makeup, her skin is glowing, and I just love her. I will take picture tomorrow of my haircut when I don't have it pulled up in a high-pony and show you how bouncy it turned out. I realized scanning back through my old photographs that I've really kept short hair for a while. Here's to growing it super long still and taking new photographs to prove I did it!

Arizona Trading Company: Lawrence, KS

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

GOOD MORNING!

This morning is that morning where I desperately want ok NEED a Redeye coffee. Who wants to bring me one? :) I went with my friend Chelsea to Lawrence Sunday for a cheap girl date and to go eat/thrift store shopping. She had only been there one time before so we had fun just doing a girl Super Bowl date, rather than wearing sweat pants around the house eating pork grinds.

We stopped by Free State Brewery for a few brewskys and some beer battered onion rings. Can you believe we ate a full order of those things? I tried two beers that were new to me on tap: Lupulus Maximus and Fireside Imperial Pils. Chelsea had their Oatmeal Stout and another one that I don't remember the name. Here is evidence of the beers we tried and the HUGE onion rings. We also ate dinner at The Burger Stand which my friends Simon Bates and Codi Bates own and they have crazy delicious food. (See the burger picture below)

Before eating the burger the size of our head's we stopped by Arizona Trading Company to search for some cool thrift clothing. They had a Winter Coat Sale Rack in the front and I found this badass leather jacket. It's streamlined and really simple so I had to snatch it up. The best part is is was only $18.75 and was in perfect condition so I snatched that up ASAP. I bought this other amazing BCBG dress for only $5.00 and I dug for it in those trash bins you see below. I am not above digging for a deal by any means; I will post pictures of the dress at the event I attend tomorrow!

Green Lady Lounge

Sunday, February 3, 2013

Whoa,

Too much happened this weekend so I'm not sure what to post about. I visited my Mecca called Green Lady Lounge in Kansas City. My maiden name is Pavlish so I want to claim I'm more Russian than perhaps I am Swedish or Norwegian. Green lady lounge had every type of red velvet imaginable, with the right amount of old jazz musicians, and drunk locals that every bar wishes they had for eternity.

My friend was turning 21....cough...29...and we stopped at La Bodega for dinner/drinks and to show off her vintage sequin butterfly top. The whole restaurant had to listen to us sing Happy Birthday but really it provided them with a story to tell their friends after their Saturday day dinner finished. Btw-My friend Sheppa is on the moped and my Robbie is next to him.

I wore green tights from Target, a black ballerina dress from Urban Outfitters, white shiny jacket from Kensie, and black sparkle dancing shoes from Shoe Carnival. I'm heading to bed now but another post tomorrow from Lawrence.

TGIF-Fashion

Friday, February 1, 2013

Good morning,

In future blog posts friends I feel like writing a lot of about TGIF. I love my job but I love my weekends more. For those that don't remember "From 1989-2000, Friday nights on ABC were home to the block of family-friendly sitcoms known as TGIF, which in addition to the traditional “thank God it’s Friday” stood for “thank goodness it’s funny," (Bell, 2011). Let me list those famous shows that kept us going through the bad fashions of the 1990's.

1. 'Full House' (1987-1995)

2. 'Family Matters' (1989-1998)

3. 'Perfect Strangers' (1986-1993)

4. 'Step by Step' (1991-1998)

5. 'Boy Meets World' (1993-2000)

6. 'Sabrina, the Teenage Witch' (1996-2003)

7. 'Dinosaurs' (1991-1994)

I watched ALL of these shoes and I remember certain things from each of them. Full House I realized how much I could crush on a guy, I mean that Uncle Jesse doesn't age! Family Matters made me realize how much I valued my neighbors because they weren't anything like Steve Urkel; I realized I wanted to be friends with Steve because he could build a time machine. Perfect Strangers made me realize that I could never be Potluck for college with a roommate and that I really loved all cultures. Step by Step made me realize I wanted to buy Suzanne Somers Thigh Master because I wanted to be a hot mom someday. Boy Meets World made me realize that I had a thing for bad boys but the nice ones will be the ones you really want. Sabrina, the Teenage Witch made me want a talking cat and to have two crazy aunts. Finally, Dinosaurs made me not want to fall asleep at night after watching it because that baby on the show was a creeper.

In conclusion here are some fashions for you if you want to channel your inner diva of the 1990's. I mean it wasn't all bad! We did get some really great plaid shirts out of it and a really awesome smiley face.

Wedding Fever

Thursday, January 31, 2013

Hi readers!

One of my close friends Kerre is getting hitched this Summer and I can't help love looking at wedding dresses again. I was lucky enough to be asked to be a bridesmaid in her wedding and go view her wedding dress fitting happening today. (She's having her J-Crew gown customized which is rad)

I was married last April and it seems that it was just yesterday I was shopping for my own wedding dress. I had the dilemma of Vera Wang starting to design for David's Bridal around the time of my wedding and falling in love with a huge Tulle dress that was $1,050 and my dad flipped over the price. Needless to say I didn't end up getting said dress but did get one I loved as much.

For my readers planning their weddings on a budget here are a few dresses/accessories I love and might help you decide what to wear. I had a huge wedding close to 300 people so it had to be on a budget with a lot of things so I didn't have crazy debt afterwards. Unless you have a crazy obsession with a certain designer and coveting that name-tag on your back I say just get a dress that you love. Finally, I wasn't that excited about going into a "bridal shop" but it was fun to try on so many different dresses. I ended up picking a different one from David's Bridal online outlet that I didn't try on but it only ended up costing $299.00 and it was totally worth it. (I am not a paid sponsor for David's Bridal btw)
Bridesmaid Dresses: David's Bridal
Shoes: Target
I'm the one in the wedding dress :)
This is my sister, brother-in-law, her
kids, my husband, and my mom/dad.

How amazing is this dress on sale at David's Bridal right now? If I could do one thing different in my wedding I would have chosen a different/lighter dress to wear to the reception but everything else about our wedding I loved. I bought all my bridal dresses from the outlet too for only $29.99 a piece! That was a crazy steal and it all worked out even though one of my best friends found out she was preggo half-way through planning the wedding.

Winter Weather Outfits

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Burr...

Most Midwesterners can handle this cold weather but I still think MO/KS folks are kinda pansies. I wore my goulashes, orange knit hat, dark purple wool coat, and my white poncho and I feel fine. For those ladies that are having Just Another Day at the Office feeling can you please review these outfits for a few ideas? Stay warm out there and mostly stay safe!

Spilt Coffee

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Hi readers,

This morning was NOT my morning. I did get to visit Parisi Coffee before work and take a fun Instagram photo of Union Station; however, I ended up spilling my mocha two times today. The worst part was that I spilt it over my light pink shirt which ended up making it see through and I'm sure clients would not be impressed with that. I went home and changed which ended up with me wearing these fun tights. At least those can make up for my "Case of the Mondays" which ended up happening to me on a Tuesday. Let's see if I can make it through the rest of my day without any more spilt milk.

Cheers,

The Addy's 2013

Monday, January 28, 2013

Ohhhh parties,

I went thrifting and found two dresses worthy of The Addy's. It's a time for creatives in Kansas City to really dress to impress, walk around talking about creative things, and drink too many cocktails. The first dress I found really reminds me of Kirsten Dunst's Louis Vuitton dress she wore to the Art of Elysium Gala. The biggest difference is that I bought my dress for $6.00 and it is Jessica Mcclintock.

I plan to wear my heels from Windsor I blogged about a few weeks ago, the black strappy ones, and wear my hear up in some Audrey Hepburnesque hairdo. Excited to take pictures of everyone there because I should have my new camera by then. What dress do you like better?

Dress Option #2: VintageVelvet Black

New Camera

Sunday, January 27, 2013

Hi lovelies,

I think starting this blog and doing a post everyday is great fun but I have decided after this one I will rest from blogging on Sundays. Sunday is a day of relaxation and no work so I plan to follow that most of the time. I did want to clue you in on two exciting things: one-tomorrow's post will be about my two dress choices for The Addy Awards, two-I am getting a new camera.

Robbie and I have been researching, ok well Robbie has really been doing research, we finally found ourselves a camera winner. I love the old school feel of this camera and the beautiful digital photos it takes. Our paycheck this week will purchase this beauty and then you will see so many more original photos on here and not just my instagram phone shots. I am loving sharing my time on my blog with you and I ask that you become a full-time follower! Twitter, Facebook, Google Reader, whatever floats your boat but please follow me. Also, don't be afraid to leave me a comment because I love hearing your thoughts. Sleep well.

Good Hair Day

Saturday, January 26, 2013

Readers,

It finally happened where I put product in my hair and took time to blow dry it. (Two products to be exact) Usually I leave the house with wet hair and this cold weather turns it into ice cubes. I'm dressed a little like Meg or Jack White from The White Stripes with only white, black, and red. If I can get my act together on a more consistent basis I think I could have a few fully put together outfits everyday for work. Thanks for this awesome weather too that I only have to wear a red blazer with killer shoulder pads for warmth. Happy Saturday!
