Pool Parties

Monday, August 19, 2013

Readers!

Wow, a lot has happened since my last post. I did my first guest writing gig and summer has flown by way too fast! The guest writing gig was fun but it made me a lot more nervous than my normal blog posts. Branching out to new things is good within blogging and I hope to do a few more guest spots soon. My husband and I are pulling the trigger tonight and buying my dream camera. Fujifilm X-E1 I want to start arranging with a couple of my friends to do some fashion shoots and will have ALL my own original content so soon.

These are a couple of photos I took at my friend's birthday party. They just scored this rad apartment behind this lady in KC's amazing house and they have access to her pool/bbq. A lot of my friend's that I hadn't seen in a long time were there and it was so fun to hang out to bbq. I hope to squeeze in a few more of these days before it gets too cold in Kansas City because God knows my pale skin needs a tan. I hope to start showing you in future posts some more fashion photography of my guy friend's wardrobes. I've been getting accused of my blog being too girly but I mean I'M A GIRL :P

18th Street Fashion Show-Behind the Scenes Part I

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Readers!

It really has been an honor and a pleasure documenting my friend's Sarah Nelsen and Sara Cramer for The 18th Street Fashion Show. For legal reasons I couldn't publish my photos earlier but now that show has happened I am excited to show you some of their amazing work. I always forget the extensive creative process it takes for a fashion show: creation, 1st review, re-working a piece, and having a finished product. I was so proud of my friend's working together and coming up with such an amazing collection that everyone fell in love with KC fashion. The 18th Street Fashion Show this year seems at a much more professional level from presentation, styling, runway set-up, and the quality/fabrication of the garments. I am working on completing my video for an exclusive view of both Sarah/Sara's work from both of their studios, the day of the show, and the fashion show. I think it will be trilogy video of those things mentioned above and I am really excited about the video portion for my readers! The video below is from my good friend Sheppa and I think it is so badass. This wasn't shown at GILDED SUMMER but I think it should've been shown at some point. It seemed to fit right in next to the Gold Metallic Mini-Cooper on display.   Enjoy it until I get my three videos up soon!

Theme of The 18th Street Fashion Show/GILDED SUMMER:
  • This period refers to the latter half of the 19th century, when many great fortunes were made and the rich celebrated wealth as never before. Widespread economic growth lead to the belief that anything was possible, and millions flocked to the United States from Europe attracted to industrial and technological advances. Two areas of major growth were railroads and coal mining. In 1896 the First Transcontinental Railroad opened, linking the coasts and making it possible to travel from New York to San Francisco in a matter of days, instead of months. Though invention and industry ruled the day, underneath the glittering surface of prosperity, lay an underbelly of corruption, greed, and vulgarity. Many of the super-rich, businessmen such as John D. Rockefeller and Cornelius Vanderbilt, who made their fortunes during this time, were perceived to have attained their wealth through shady business dealings and illegitimate means. Mark Twain famously coined the term “Gilded Age” to satirize the era, referring to serious social problems masked by a thin layer of gold.

Baldwin=Badass Denim

Monday, March 18, 2013

Hi readers,

Let's go ahead and agree that KC company Baldwin is a badass. GQ has had their eye on them for quite a few years now and Matt Baldwin is showing how quality denim is worth the investment. GQ voted them as one of the Best New Menswear Designers in America. Some notable and famous Kansas Citians like Jason Sudeikis have been sporting his KC Baldwin hat around with his equally as famous girlfriend Olivia Wilde. I am not afraid to admit either that Baldwin's jeans are equal eye candy as their founder Matt Baldwin.

Baldwin winning the award from GQ means this fall, style-conscious shoppers can buy both a KC hat and a KC T-shirt in Thailand, Tokyo and more than 200 other cities around the world. I joke to my husband that he will finally be able to afford a couple pair of their jeans! I know they are going to sell out like crazy so everyone better head to their local GAP store ASAP when the collection is out. I plan to buy a lot of stuff to support Baldwin but just to have high quality clothing. I will keep you posted on my blog when they start the collection and let you know what items I snatched up. I already own the limited edition Baldwin bag that came out last year and I'm excited to use it this summer.

Where Did I Put My Oscar?

Monday, February 25, 2013

The Oscars,

Ok, one thing you need to know about me is my LOVE for all things funny. Favorite funny bits of The Oscars were Seth Macfarlane hosting, Melissa Mccarthy presenting, and Daniel Day Lewis's acceptance speech. My friend's and I went to a free Oscar Party at The Screenland off of Armour in North Kansas City Oscar Event and we had an amazing time. It was amazing to watch The Oscars on the Big Screen and I think it was my favorite Oscar show thus far.  PS-How amazing was Adele?

Favorite Seth Macfarlane jokes of the night:

[On Daniel Day-Lewis's role as Abraham LIncoln]. You stayed in character all day, every day. So if you saw a cell phone, would you have to be like, "Oh my god! What's that?!" If you bumped into Don Cheadle on the studio lot, would you have to free him?

Whether [Jennifer Lawrence] wins or loses, it's just an honor Meryl Streep wasn't nominated.

"Amour" is nominated. Or as I call it, "This is Ninety."

Here are a couple of fun shots from the night that I took and a couple of the actual Oscars that I didn't take :)

The Addys-Kansas City 2013

Sunday, February 17, 2013

Happy Sunday,

Last night was great and full of so many talented people at The Addys Award Show. Our wedding invite even won an award from the talented ladies Megan Collins and Andrea Morris at DMH (Diamond Merkens Hogan). It was so nice to take time getting ready Saturday for the award show and knowing that it would be spent with the best creatives in Kansas City all under one roof. My work 19 Below was a sponsor for the event too.

I wanted to do my hair to match my black velvet vintage dress for the night so I google Hollywood Waves and found a great tutorial. For my makeup I made sure to use face primer called Hard Candy, a foundation brush for my Rimmel foundation, Revlon lipstick and lip liner, and Essie Pink nail polish.

I need to find more pictures of me in my dress from last night! After a few too many glasses of wine it got a lot harder to remember to take photos. The event took place at The Midland Theatre and it truly is inspiring everytime I visit. The after party at Liquid 9 was a lot of fun too with balloon chandeliers. I will write more soon and possibly post more pictures that I find. Thanks for an amazing night KC!
