Sleep Coma

Friday, January 11, 2013

Hello friends,

As my friend on FB put "Hello world, please feel better." I caught that dreaded sickness but NyQuil let me slumber and I think the worst is gone. I'm heading out with Robbie to his Holiday Party for his work. I love that companies schedule their holiday parties after the holidays so have an excuse to get dressed up. Oh! Did I forget I mention his work is sending taxis to pick us up and drop us off? Thank goodness that way if we have too many glasses of bubbly we still get home lovely. I'll post pictures of possible outfits for me to wear tonight. Will you help me pick one out?

Ps-I think the winner is the silver strapless dress.

Donna's Dress Shop

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Happy Thursday,

Donna's Dress Shop looks amazing outside, maybe even TOO cool looking. (http://www.donnasdressshop.com) It is one of those cute boutiques I feel the need to get dressed up before I step foot inside. I know they have lots of affordable clothing, jewelry, and shoes for the everyday person. I really want to visit and document my shopping experience for an upcoming blog post; my husband has a persistent desire to dress me up like a pin-up girl. Only the classy ones though so no wearing my bathing suit around KC in winter. I want to support local businesses so I feel ashamed I haven't been in to shop yet! Will some of you send me pictures of your cute purchases there? I want to feature them in this here blog.

I love the show New Girl and I think this whole store would serve well as Zooey Deschanel new girl "Jess" character's closet. This show is one of my "I have to watch or I feel incomplete as a person if a miss an episode." Heck, this store could be the actual wardrobe of Zooey Deschanel because I have a sneaky suspicion she gets to keep all the clothes from New Girl. Zooey is the epitome of cool, the girl that all boys secretly like, and my best-friend. Well, not yet but she really is looking forward to being my BFF someday.

Bowie Style

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

JADATO says,

Bowie is back. Yes you heard me right and I couldn't be more excited! Twitter, Facebook, and Fashion Houses are all buzzing about Bowie's latest single to drop in over a decade. Will you be watching which fashion houses feature him in their catwalk line-up? Della Russo is excited about David Bowie's surprise new album due in March.

Read this article if you don't believe me: http://www.wwd.com/fashion-news/fashion-scoops/bowie-talk-dominates-london-event-6581860?module=Fashion-Fashion%20Scoops-main

He is one of my favorite artists and I have ALL of his albums. Friends and followers if ever comes to Kansas City you better let me know so we can buy tickets immediately!

Speaking of Bowie let's explore some outfits that we should wear while watching him:

1. Two tone contacts are a must and face paint is a given.

2. Labyrinth hairstyles and sequins shirts are a must try. I think I have a crimper lying around somewhere.

3. Huge stilettos or chunky boots, faux furs, WAY too much blush, and python work great too. (I will try to put myself in a Bowie outfit tonight to show you how it really could look. I need a lot of practice before he reads my blog and decides to tour to Kansas City. ;)

Thrift Shopping-ONLINE

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Happy Tuesday,

As I stated in my first post I am going to try and make our shopping experiences together affordable. I LOVE THRIFT STORES. OK, I know all capital letters are dramatic but it still can't express how much I love them. I am always searching for affordable "labels" or "couture" pieces to fill in my wardrobe and love finding websites that help. In my quest for affordable thrifty solutions not from the Midwest I stumbled upon this gem of a website based in NYC.

http://www.beaconscloset.com/

They seem to have a good variety of shoes sizes to purchase along with the great brands to match. (Both men and women's clothing) Just so you know me better I have a 8.5-9 size shoe. I'm always envious of my friends' who can fit in those cute clearance shoes they always have in a size 6 but at 5'7 I think I would fall over in that small of a shoe.

That being said here are a few pairs of shoes I have my eye on from this website:

boots by colin stuart
clog boot 9

shoes by ashish x topshop
peep toe wedge 8.5

Options to wear shoe one:
Please take note that these are strong shoes
in their design meaning they could overpower anyone's outfit very easily. I don't want you to end up looking like Snooki, no offense Snooki, but still have one strong piece in an outfit to compliment the others.
1. Leopard Prints with Earth Tones and Mid-Toned Neutrals
2. Red and other bright colors
3. An all black-ensemble
4. Denim jeans and a white button down shirt
(from http://shoes.about.com/od/whattowearwithshoes/a/What-To-Wear-With-Leopard-Print-Shoes.htm)

Visual outfit option for shoe two: (obviously you would wear the green clog instead but brown looks awesome too)

Confessions of a Scary Closet

Monday, January 7, 2013

Remember the time when you first watched Clueless? I was around thirteen and I could fixate on was how to get my parents to build me the same closet she had. That plus the sayings "As if" or "He does dress better than I do, what would I bring to the relationship?"

For this blog/post I want to be totally real with you in stating I will never get this closet. My apartment closet is a bit of a disaster. I mean it has lots of space when it's empty but it is completely gushing when it is full! I plan on tackling that organization bug over the course of this blog because all girls/guys know that it is a constant struggle. I hope to show you the rule of bring in something new to a wardrobe means getting rid of something too. This helps me get ready faster for my job in the morning and helps make my day that much more stress free.

Ok...here is my real closest. Laughing and judging please commence.

First Day

Monday, January 7, 2013

Hello future readers,

I am finally starting this blog after a lot of patience through planning a wedding, finishing my Masters, starting a new job, and getting married. My husband has been a huge source of inspiration and encouragement throughout this thought process; he even designed my logo that I'm posting later tonight. I wanted to start it the right way and make sure I was ready to commit to a blog. I am excited to say that I'm ready to commit to a blog and use my photography degree to take pictures for my posts.
I hope this blog inspires my readers to look to themselves for fashion inspiration and to encourage them to not spend a ton of money on clothing either. I want to show my followers that just because we can't afford a single item in a fashion magazine doesn't mean that we can't be fashionable. I want to showcase Kansas City to show we are fashionable and we don't just wear overalls with hay in our pockets. Most of all I hope to connect with others out there and continually search for inspiration.

Best,

Kat Mitchell
